PCMS ROS members will be implementing a new program, TRUST.
TRUST is an acronym for:

T erriers
R eading &
U niting
S tudents
T ogether

We will be visiting a select few kindergarten and first grade classes from our feeder schools.  The ROS students will be reading books to the children as well as assisting the teacher with any specific needs they might have. The students are excited for the privilege they have been given.  We are kicking off TRUST at Kingsway Elementary this Friday, February 28th, 2014 at 10:00 am.

We owe a special thanks to Mr. Revelas for the opportunity to enter into this partnership with our neighboring schools.  I also want to especially thank the Principal of Kingsway, Mr. Ron Rogala for allowing us this honor!

Respect Our School - ROS

The ROS program is designed to enhance campus safety while increasing the individual student’s civic engagement. The program typically consists of thirty (30) 8th grade students. Members monitor the campus observing their surroundings through sight and sound in an effort to identify potential safety issues. Once identified, members report information to school authorities or the School Resource Officer so action may be taken. Information is often regarding incidents such as bullying, fighting, thefts, and vandalism.

Members are assigned one day a week of observation patrol. Crime prevention and responsible reporting are actions to enhance campus safety that carries over into the community. This teaches members their role in civic responsibility.  The safety and security of our nation begins with our schools!

We are placing special emphasis this year on Patriotism and the fundamental beliefs the United States of America is built on! Teams consisting of five members on a rotating basis are taught how to raise and lower the American Flag daily.

ROS members must exhibit qualities such as dependability, honesty, and leadership skills. They must have a 2.0 GPA or higher, no discipline on file, and no unexcused or excessive absences from school. ROS members must always remember they do not carry authority to act or direct other’s actions. ROS members must apply, have parent consent, and go through an initial training session with regular member meetings.

The community may support the program through donations to the school ROS fund. Funding provides each child with an ROS shirt, member identification cards, end of the year awards program, pizza socials, and educational field trips. Annually, one field trip is always made to the Justice Center.  This event is an opportunity for our students to witness the daily events and procedures that take place in our judicial system.

The ROS program is a cooperative effort between the School Administration, Staff, and the School Resource Officer. The program is supported by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Bill Cameron and the members of the Juvenile Operations Unit.
